What is a sound isolation clip?

Sound isolation clips, also known as resilient mounts, are used as a way of disconnecting the wall system in acoustic wall and ceiling assemblies, for buildings or rooms that require a high level of noise reduction or soundproofing.

Using sound isolation clips significantly reduces noise transfer, as the clip is fixed between the steel stud and furring channel, to attenuate the sound between rooms or floors.

How do Resilmount products work?

Resilmount Sound isolation clips are engineered to decouple the drywall (mass) in an assembly from the structure. This means that there is no direct transfer of sound vibrations from the drywall through the structure to the neighboring room or story. For more information visit our ‘How does soundproofing work?’ article.

How much sound is prevented from the installation of Resilmount sound isolation clips?

The difference between a soundproofed assembly versus a non-soundproofed assembly entirely depends on the assembly.  A typical standard 2×4 wood stud assembly with one layer of 5/8” drywall either side will receive around 34-36 STC, should you install Resilmount clips in the same assembly you will receive 54 STC. Giving you an average increase in 20 STC points.
